'Suspicious': Oakville house fire leads to police investigation

Halton Police are currently investigating an Oakville house fire as an act of arson following an estimated $25,000 - $50,000 in damages to an unoccupied home. The fire department successfully rescued a dog from the residence.

On April 13, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., Halton Police and Oakville Fire responded to a residence near Dundas Street West and Colonel William Parkway for a house fire. 

Deputy Fire Chief Dan Boyer says fire crews aggressively attacked the fire, which was contained to the area of the front door of the home and was quickly extinguished with no reported injuries.

Halton Police Constable Jeff Dillon confirmed that there were no occupants present at the time of the incident. Deputy Boyer informed Oakville News that a dog was rescued from the residence.

Deputy Boyer says damage costs are estimated between $25,000 - $50,000.

Constable Dillon says police are investigating the fire as an act of arson based on the totality of the circumstances surrounding the fire.
