Dogs and their owners were  bursting in the parking lot of Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs at Wilson and Rebecca. They teamed up again with Purina this year and have raised as of this release $47,000 from the walk alone. Several other local corporate and private sponsors provided on site  support from dog food, music, and coffee and fresh baked goods. Over 250 other locations around Canada participated in this year’s walk.

The Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs provides dogs trained in service for vision, hearing, special skills, seizure response, autism assistance, and diabetic alert. The training of each dog can cost up to $20,000. The need for the dogs far exceeds the supply, so every nickel counts.

This year the event organizers ensured that there was something for everyone from a live band playing tunes, a jumpy castle for children (no adults or pets allowed), a wading pool (no children or adults allowed),  to the Good Guys Carting Dogs providing rides for children. Everyone had a smile on their face, and who wouldn’t with the amount of positive energy, stunning sunshine, and perfect walking temperature.

Councillor Dave Gittings, who also has a foster guide dog rallied the walkers, and unclipped the leash to start the one hour walk through the beautiful communities of Kerr Village and Old Oakville. Donations are always accepted by the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
