Allison Katz Diary w/o Dates is a solo exhibition of new work. Her work is displayed in both locations of the Oakville Galleries.  Katz’s art considers not only the unique character of each site, but also reflects the diverse range of her production.

At the Centennial Square, Katz reacts to the theatrical black-box design of the gallery and the concrete geometry of late 1960s civic architecture. The new large-scale paintings are hanging “in the round.”

She presents several new works at Gairloch Gardens. These include posters, ceramics and a sand painting. The art plays on elements of circulation and repetition inherent to both her own process and the architecture of this former private residence on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Katz’s paintings connect a seemingly disparate and sometimes contradictory thread. Motifs recurring in the artist’s work often find spontaneous new connections. Katz observation and close attention to language, mix with anecdote, sensation and fantasy. It informs her visual world, as does the feeling of time. Here it is recast as circular and bodily, a subjective structure that can be dissolved and imagined anew.

At the centre of this exhibition is an understanding of painting as an expansive medium that is not only static and contained, but also constantly in flux. The work forms a chain of visual associations with myriad points of connection.
