The Oakville Blades are on to the second round of the OJHL playoffs after a big 6-1 victory over the St. Michael’s Buzzers on Saturday.

The game started quite wonderfully for the Blades. After scoring the game-winning goal on Friday, Michael Mannara was able to get Oakville in the lead after going shortside on Mark Manolescu, four minutes into the contest. It was the first time the Blades started the game with the lead on the road in this series, a refreshing stat after dropping both previous contests at St. Michael’s College School Arena.

About ten minutes later, the Blades would score again to make it 2-0 . This time, a valiant effort by Christian Rajic in close saw #94 poke in the free disk past the goal line in a scramble, heading into the intermission.

The second period started beautifully for the Blades. Before the frame was even five minutes old, Drew Worrad picked up a rebound from Jackson Bales in front. The goal extended Oakville’s lead to three goals in a do-or-die contest for the Buzzers.

The Blades weren’t going to be stopped. The period wasn’t even halfway over before Bryce Misley made a nice move around a defender before roofing it over Manolescu, giving his team the seemingly unreachable 4-0 lead.

The Buzzers would get one on the board before the second was done. In the final minute of the middle stanza, Thomas Beretta fired a shot between the legs of Brendan McGlynn and in for the 4-1 goal.

Peyton Reeves is typically known for his physical play, but after scoring a hat-trick earlier in the season, it was clear he knows what to do with the puck too. Reeves was able to get his second goal in two nights after taking a nice pass in front from Evan Brown, jamming it home on the right side to give Oakville the 5-1 lead. Reeves wasn’t the only one who found the scoresheet in the third, as a late goal by Bryce Misley helped seal the deal and gave the Blades the 6-1 victory, finishing off their first round playoff schedule.

With the win, the Blades will now meet up with the Burlington Cougars in the second round of the OJHL playoffs. The schedule is set to be released shortly, so keep tuned on OakvilleBlades.ca!
