Every once in a while, we see someone special who needs a little extra help achieving a very worthy goal. That is the case with Lucy Pennyfather of Burloak Canoe Club. She has a big season ahead of her, so if you can can, please help.
Here’s Penny’s request:
Hi, my name is Lucy Pennyfather and I’m a sprint kayaker at the Burloak Canoe Club in Oakville, Ontario.
This past June I competed at Canadian National Team Trails in Montreal. I placed 2nd in the 500m and 3rd in the 200m, ranking me 3rd overall junior women’s kayaker. These results qualified me a spot to race for Canada this year at Junior World Championships in Minsk, Belarus in July and Olympic Hopes Regatta in Szeged, Hungary in September.
This year at Junior Worlds I will be racing k2 and k4 500m (two person and four person kayaks). My teammates and I are training together now in Halifax, Nova-Scotia and we will be heading out to Belarus, in a week, for more training and then the regatta.
I have always loved to train hard and push myself to paddle faster and better. I’m excited that this hard work has allowed me to succeed and receive these opportunities.
These two international regattas are very expensive to attend. It will cost a little over $8000 to participate at both events, so I would be very grateful if you could help me out by donating or sharing this page. Any amount of support will make a big difference. Thanks!!
Lucy Pennyfather has set up a GOFUNDME Campaign where you can donate at Lucy’s International Racing Season.
Burloak Canoe Club regularly sends athletes to the Olympics such as Adam van Koeverden who has competed in four Olympics and won gold, 2 silvers and one bronze. Mark Oldershaw won a bronze medal at London 2012 Olympic, and Larry Cain who won gold and silver medals in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
