Women’s Centre of Halton: Empowering Women

The Women’s Centre of Halton  is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing support for women who are in transition, crisis or distress. The Centre was established in 1989 to provide a safe place for abused women. They have since expanded with an array of programs that empower all women regardless of their age, race, religion, and sexual orientation.

Women’s Centre of Halton Mandate

To be open to all women regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.
To focus activities on women and meeting their needs.
To offer one-on-one and group support free of charge.
To educate women through seminars and workshops.

Guiding Principles of the Women’s Centre of Halton

Provide an environment of emotional and physical safety to foster a sense of empowerment.
Listen, understand, and validate women in a non-judgmental, safe, supportive atmosphere.
Be sensitive to women’s choices and life circumstances.

Provide women with the opportunity, knowledge, and support that will enable them to have a voice.
Help women to attain their full potential.
Respect all differences among women.
Partner with other organizations to meet the needs of women in our community.
Promote anti-discrimination policies regarding race, culture/sexual orientation, religion, and disability.

Empowering our clients is at the root of our philosophy and mandate. Our philosophy is to welcome all women, and to provide support and assistance in a non-judgemental, non-threatening environment that will give each woman the opportunity to be heard; to accept the equal worth of each woman and to value the individuality of her life experience; to acknowledge the shared commonality of women’s experience and the impact of this experience and societal expectations on women’s behaviours and choices.
Women’s Centre of Halton Programs, Workshops, & Other Services
Anyone interested in attending workshops at The Women’s Centre of Halton MUST pre-register and pay at least 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop. Early registration is recommended.

Drop-in Peer Support
The Women’s Centre of Halton strives to eliminate financial and cultural barriers by offering free, confidential, immediate supportive counselling.

Support Groups
Includes: Abuse Support Group, Separation & Divorce Support Group, No More Codependency Support Group.

Employment
Programs geared toward women seeking employment support .

Women’s Groups (50 and over)
Different topics covered each month.

Legal
Programs for legal support and education. Includes: Family Law Legal Clinic, Family Law Workshop.

Other Services
Includes: Self-Esteem, Income Tax Clinic.
