The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) of the Halton Regional Police Service is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Mississauga man shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

At 6:10 p.m. emergency services were called to the intersection of Trafalgar Road and White Oaks Boulevard in response to a collision between an SUV and a motorcycle. Upon arrival paramedics found the unresponsive motorcycle rider on the roadway. He was rushed to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The female driver of the SUV and an 11 year old child passenger were shaken up but not injured. They were checked by paramedics at the scene as a precaution.

Preliminary indications are that the motorcycle, a 2009 Triumph, being operated by a 41 year old Mississauga man was northbound on Trafalgar Road when it collided with the SUV; a 2014 Honda CRV being operated by a 48 year old Oakville woman, which was turning left onto White Oaks from southbound Trafalgar.

Due to the fatality, the CRU was called to the scene and has taken carriage of the investigation. Traffic light timings, speed and visibility issues will be part of the reconstructive investigation. Alcohol is not being considered as a factor in this collision. The intersection has been closed in all directions to traffic since the time of the collision and police are aiming to have it re-opened by 11 p.m.

Several witnesses stepped forward and provided statements to police. Any other witnesses are asked to contact the CRU at 905.825.4747 ext.5065.

This is the 11th fatal collision on Halton Region roadways for 2014, and the 2nd to occur in the Town of Oakville.
