In preparation for the winter ahead, registration for the town’s Driveway Snow Windrow Clearing program will begin on October 14. This program is offered to residents 65 years or older who do not have an able-bodied person under the age of 65 at their residence and to those residents restricted by mobility challenges or medical conditions. ServiceOakville will be processing applications and payments, and working with Works Operations to build the registrant list.

What is a snow windrow?

A snow windrow is the pile of snow that is left at the bottom of a driveway after the snow plow has cleared the road. The town’s windrow clearing program helps seniors 65+ and people with physical disabilities or medical conditions that are unable to clear the windrow on their own.

What does the service include?

Our service is offered from December 1 to March 31. Windrow snow will be cleared every time a snowfall exceeds 7.5 centimetres (3 inches) and only after the town has finished plowing all roads. Our contractor does not clear other parts of the driveway or sidewalk.

It may take up to 12 hours after the town has finished plowing all roads for your windrow snow to be removed. If a faster level of service is required or if you need your entire driveway cleared, you may prefer to hire a private snow removal company.

Who is eligible?

  • Residents 65 years of age or older (proof of age is required)
  • Persons restricted by mobility challenges or medical conditions (a doctor’s note is required)
  • Registrants will also need to sign a declaration stating that no able-bodied person under the age of 65 is living at their residence.

Cost

There is a non-refundable user-fee of $96.05 ($85+HST) per winter season.

Registration opens October 14!
New applications must be processed in person at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road. The ServiceOakville customer service counter is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants may pay by cash, cheque, debit or credit.

The deadline for registration is Friday, November 21, 2014.

As a courtesy, the town is mailing 2014-2015 program application forms to last year’s registrants and is offering them the convenience of mailing in their application and fee. This year’s fee of $96.05 ($85 plus HST) remains the same as last year. The letters were mailed earlier this week.
