Halton residents have purchased over 23,000 rain barrels. Using the water from one full rain barrel saves 240L of water, which is more than the average Halton resident uses in one day.

“What we do today matters for tomorrow. We want to encourage residents to ReThink Water and make water efficiency part of their daily lives,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “The rain barrel program is one way we help residents protect our valuable water resources for the future.”

Rain barrels divert water from downspouts and collect it for use in gardens and potted plants. Using the barrels helps contribute to water conservation efforts especially during the summer months when outdoor water consumption can double.

Halton residents may purchase a rain barrel for $45 at any of the following four events. Residents also have the option to order online https://rainbarrel.ca/halton/ directly, throughout the summer.

Oakville’s truckload sales event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at

•               Saturday, June 11, 2015
Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville
(parking lot “A” – enter at North Service Road)

Walk-up purchases at truckload sales will be limited to one barrel per household (cash only). To purchase a rain barrel, proof of Halton residency must be provided. The rain barrel fits into the back seat of an average-sized vehicle and requires minimal assembly. Online orders have no limit to quantity. Online orders may be picked up at the truckload sales, or home delivery is available after the final truckload sale throughout the summer for a flat fee of $20.00. Residents are responsible for adapting their downspout to flow into the rain barrel. Assembly instructions are included.
