Michael Williams Presents SUNDAY NIGHT, a live, acoustic event featuring two-time Juno award nominee Dr . Jason Wilson, multi-instrumentalist, reggae artist and acclaimed historian, Sunday May 22, 2016 at Taste of Colombia’s El Salon.

Wilson, a child of Scottish immigrants, is famous for incorporating jazz and Scottish influences with a strong reggae foundation. The music of his Scottish heritage is woven throughout his music and infused with his stories. Wilson first performed at the age of 14 with reggae band Messenjah. Now an accomplished singer/songwriter, he is best known for his keyboarding skills. Wilson has performed and/or recorded with a slew of artists over the years including UB40, Alanis Morissette, Ron Sexsmith, Percy Sledge and Dave Swarbrick. Wilson is the protégé of Studio One keyboardist Jackie Mittoo and is also the cousin of UB40’s Michael Virtue.

An award winning author, Wilson has written five books including Soldiers of Song and Lord Stanley: The Man Behind The Cup. He is also an Adjunct-Professor in the Department of History at the University of Guelph.

According to Wilson’s website “his music has been described as “reggae-impressionism”, “jazzy-reggae” or even “post-reggae”…Wilson combines reggae with the improvisational sensibility of jazz and then layers it with the storytelling quality of the Scottish folk tradition”.

Williams Presents SUNDAY NIGHT is a series of live events, two to four times a month, featuring both international and local artists performing an intimate, informal shows. The evening is hosted by former Much Music VJ and Musicologist Michael Williams whose lifelong passion for music has provided him many roles as producer, journalist, musician, media personality and educator. “I have always wanted a platform to present intimate shows…and have found the perfect venue in El Salon. The plan is to bring in the best artists I know and pair them with up-and-coming local artists.”

Join us at Taste of Colombia El Salon for an evening of great music and wonderful stories. The perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a great cup of your favourite beverage and ease into that Monday morning.
