Notice of intention to pass Private Tree Protection by-law on April 24, 2017
Notice of intention to pass a by-law
Location: Council Chambers

The Town of Oakville is changing its Private Tree Protection By-law 2008-156 regulating the destruction or injury of private trees.

The current Private Tree Protection By-law was adopted by Council in October 2008 to support a greener community and a healthier environment.

Council voted to strengthen the town’s private tree protection by-law in October 2016 to better protect significant and healthy trees on all private properties to sustain Oakville’s canopy coverage, and directed staff to present the changes to the by-law early in 2017.

The new by-law will mean that property owners who wish to remove any healthy tree greater than 15 centimetres in diameter from their property will require a permit and may also be required to plant new trees to compensate for the canopy loss. For details of the proposed new by-law visit our Private Tree Protection page.

The decision of the CSC will be forwarded to Council for consideration on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber.
