Oakville’s Tree Canopy with John McNeil

Our forests have taken a beating in the past few years. We have seen the die-back of the oaks in the Iroquois Shore Woods, the spread of black knot, the devastation by the emerald ash borer and now the Christmas ice storm. So how are our trees coping with these assaults?

To help us understand the current state of Oakville’s forest canopy, our January speaker will be John McNeil. John is the Manager, Forestry Services with the Town of Oakville.

John will give us a current review of how the forests are coping with the emerald ash borer and the Town’s program of managing this destructive pest. Then he will present an overview to the response to the damage of the ice storm.

What should we be looking for when assessing the damage to trees on our property? Is it too late to inoculate our ash trees? Should a tree come down or will it recover? Bring your questions and concerns for an informative evening.
