The Town of Oakville is currently conducting a comprehensive review of licensing options for ride-sharing/transportation network companies (TNC) like Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, and Hailo. Members of the public and industry stakeholders are invited to attend our public meeting on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 6 p.m. to share their thoughts. Feedback collected will help inform recommendations for Council approval later this year. The meeting will take place at Town Hall in the South Atrium.

“We know that technology is changing the way people choose to travel for work and leisure,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “Council asked staff to review the impact ride-sharing services will have in Oakville, and present licensing options that meet the needs of everyone in our community. It is important to us that residents have the opportunity to share their opinions and we invite anyone interested to do so at this meeting.”

The town’s TNC licensing review will explore how to best integrate these services into our community through various licensing options, consider the impact ride-sharing/transportation network companies have on our community and the taxi cab industry, and focus on safety and consumer protection.

“We want to better understand the issues that are important to our community when it comes to regulating ride-sharing companies,” said Jim Barry, senior manager, Enforcement Services. “This feedback will help us determine what we need to consider in developing licensing options.”

Anyone in our community who would like to attend this public meeting is asked to register, as seating is limited. Please visit oakville.ca and search “TNC” for details and to complete the registration form.
