Tafelmusik, Canada’s award-winning orchestra on period instruments, has become an internationally recognized ensemble lauded by Gramophone Magazine as “one of the world’s top baroque orchestras.” Founded in 1979 by Kenneth Solway and Susan Graves, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra has been under the inspired leadership of Music Director Jeanne Lamon since 1981.

After a remarkable 33 seasons Jeanne stepped down as full-time Music Director of Tafelmusik in 2014. During this exciting time in Tafelmusik’s history Jeanne will continue to be involved with the orchestra as well as the search for a new Music Director. With its artist-focused mandate and commitment to excellence and innovation, Tafelmusik is actively creating new contexts for the performance of baroque and classical music.

Their appearance at Celebration of the Arts, under the direction of violinist Catherine Manson, a member of the Haydn Quartet of London, UK, will showcase some of the finest music of the era.

Catherine Manson will be the soloist in two works: J.S. Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, as well as his Concerto for Violin and Oboe in C Minor, with oboist John Abberger. Rounding out the program will be an Orchestra Suite by Johann Joseph Fux, Concerto for Strings in C by Vivaldi and Suite in B-flat from Tafelmusik by Telemann.

Celebration of the Arts artistic director Doug Field says, “The music of the Baroque has a unique combination of beauty, excitement and intimacy found in no other period, and it’s perfectly suited to the environment of St. Jude’s Church. Tafelmusik’s concert two years ago was sold out and we anticipate the Barque Masters concert will be a hot ticket, too.”
