Halton Police Request Assistance: Families in Mourning asked to keep vigilant during funeral services

The Halton Regional Police Service is warning the public about thieves who are scanning GTA and local newspaper and online obituaries and then breaking in during the funeral.  

While grieving friends and family members are attending the funeral, their house is broken into, rummaged through and items such as jewelry and silver are stolen.

The first break and enter occurred on February 10th, 2014 during the day in the Town of Milton.

The second occurred on February 11th, 2014 during the day in the Town of Acton.

The third occurred on February 18th, 2014 during the day in the Town of Oakville.

Police have provided a description of a suspect vehicle: 

A 2001-2005 black or dark blue van, similar to a Chevrolet Venture. The suspect vehicle appears to have 5-spoke wheels with the hub caps missing.

A female suspect, described as being : white, 30 to 40 years in age, with an average build was observed to be occupying this vehicle in the area of one of the entries.

Police are advising the public to lock all doors and windows, and to have a friend or neighbour watch your home the day of the funeral.

Encourage them to call police and report any suspicious activity such as a vehicle driving back and forth in front of the house and/or slowing or stopping to look at the house.
One of the suspects may be dropped off in the area to approach the house on foot.

Please contact the Halton Regional Police if you observe any suspicious people walking around the property.
