Police throughout Halton Region will be stepping up enforcement efforts to catch impaired drivers over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Though St. Patrick’s Day is a traditional day of celebration with family and friends, often the festivities lead to excessive drinking that can turn deadly.

Assign a designated driver, call a cab or plan on public transportation. Being prepared ahead of time is key to avoiding the temptation to get behind the wheel while your ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired.

The consequences of impaired driving are severe and can result in licence suspensions, vehicle impoundments, fines and even jail. In addition you are not only putting yourself in danger, but other passengers and motorists as well.

Citizens who suspect a person is driving while impaired are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
