The Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit has charged the ex-spouse of Jason Robert Laramee, a former investor who is accused and awaiting trial for defrauding investors of over $11 million.

Renata Dawn Schumaker 43yrs from Oakville has been charged with Obtaining Credit by Fraud and Fraud Over $5000 in relation to her involvement in a police investigation that began in 2012.

It is alleged that between approximately April 17, 2006 and January 31, 2012 Jason Robert Laramee defrauded several investors of $11 million while being the owner and operator of an investment company identified as RBL Capital Corporation in the Town of Oakville.

During this period, he was married to Schumaker.

Laramee was charged by the Halton Regional Police Service on April 25, 2013 and is awaiting trial on several fraud related charges.

During May 2007 it is alleged that Schumaker and Laramee obtained credit by fraud in obtaining a line of credit loan from a financial institution and further perpetrated the fraud by falsely representing her position and income as the alleged Vice-President of Laramee’s company RBL Capital Corporation.

“Once investigators began to examine further the laundering of finances for the purposes of sentencing, it became apparent to investigators that Renata Schumaker was complicit in her actions and subsequently has been charged,” stated Detective Sergeant Troy Izlakar of the Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit.

Schumaker was released and is to appear in Milton Provincial Court on March 4, 2015.
