On the evening of October 19, a fire broke out in Macdonald-Heaslip Hall at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Road Campus. The Oakville Fire Department responded quickly and contained the fire, but closed A, B and D wings of the campus for the evening to clear a build-up of smoke.

The Oakville Fire Department is currently on site investigating the cause of the fire and has ruled out any foul play. At this time, the cause has not been confirmed.

Classes that are scheduled in the Macdonald-Heaslip Hall (theatre) and nearby paint room have all been relocated. Further updates will be posted to Sheridan’s Twitter account, sheridancollege, and on Sheridan’s home page at www.sheridancollege.ca.

The relevant parts of the College have been proactively ventilated since 1:45 AM and air quality professionals have advised that the Campus is safe for the Sheridan community. Air quality tests are ongoing and cleaning of the affected areas has begun. Staff from D wing have been relocated while the area is ventilated, while A and B wings have re-opened.

Sheridan is grateful that no one was injured during the incident. Occupational Health and Safety staff are currently working on a restoration plan, and Macdonald Heaslip Hall is expected to re-open in time for the launch of Theatre Sheridan’s 2015-2016 season.
