Bob Ferguson added his name to the list of eight vying for the position of Town Councillor for Ward 3 on September 11th.

Bob has been a long time resident of Oakville’s Ward 3 raising five children during his 31-year marriage. His children have moved out, his corporate duties are much lighter, and according to Bob there are several major issues facing the town that could benefit from his experience.

His financial background is extensive. He has been a Director, CEO, and or Chairman since 1987. The firms include Royal SunAlliance Financial Canada, Royal Financial Services, Laurier Life Insurance Company of Canada, Imperial Life Insurance Company, Laurentian Funds Management, Cumis Life & General Insurance Company, Worldsource Financial Services, and Planning Financial Group. During this time he was responsible for up to 1200 employees around the world, as well as managing corporate assets up to $14 Billion. Since 2009 he has been the executive director for CAILBA (Canadian Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies).

The main issues of the Ward and town are the decommissioning of the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital and the redevelopment of the Hospital Lands as well as Downtown Oakville. There has never been a time that requires the in-depth and proven expertise in finance and planning according to Bob.

“The major developments proposed for the town will have a major effect on the success of Oakville for years to come,” said Mr. Ferguson. “We have to get this right.”

He feels that though he could comfortably retire he feels it is time for him to step forward and give back to the town that provided such a wonderful place for his family to live.

“Being a town councillor can not be your 3rd priority,” states Bob. “It will be my primary role should I be elected.”
