Hart Jansson decision to run for Ward 2 town councillor was officially announced on January 11, 2015, like four other like minded individuals, who want to contribute to the community. Our talk took place at Hart’s green built home in West Harbour.
Hart was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father was a bricklayer by trade, and his mom stayed home to look after the family. He has an older brother and younger sister. He stayed in Manitoba to attend the University of Manitoba’s Computer Science program.
“When I took computer science, we were working with punch cards. A lot has changed since then,” commented Hart.
Hart’s career in high tech lasted 25 years. He cofounded a telecom company that went public. At that point he had moved to Ottawa and in 1981 he married his wife Danielle. They have two children.
Later, his career transitioned to the non-profit sector. Hart was inspired by the founder of Child Haven International after hearing him speak and started off volunteering. Then he designed and managed international projects for the Canadian Development Agency. Travelling to India during the 80’s was a regular part of his life.
In 2003 Hart and Danielle decided to move from their suburban community in Ottawa to Oakville. They moved here in search of an excellent school for their daughters. Before the decision was made, they did a great deal of research, and determined that Oakville was the right place to call home.
“Just look around, Oakville is a beautiful place,” stated Hart. “ We decided to stay in Oakville after our daughters had graduated because we had become so involved in the community, and made a number of excellent friends.”
He became interested in politics when Pam Damoff was elected. He is an active member of the community working with many causes, and this is a natural extension.
