Sean sits down to our meeting with a sense of interest and comfort. He’s comfortable talking. He’s smart and approachable, so our conversation has an easy flow.
Sean Neville was born in Montreal in 1973 to a Francophone mom, and an Anglophone dad (a computer programmer). He has one sibling, a sister. At the age of 5, Sean’s family was part of the mass exodus from Montreal, and his family moved to Newmarket where he lived until university.
Sean did his undergrad at York University which allowed him to be a national competitive figure skater. He realized he wasn’t going to beat Elvis Stojko, so he took his brokerage license prior to completing his Bachelor in Business Administration. During this time he worked on Bay Street where he was involved in equity trading. Sean is competitive by nature, so he continued his education at Cornell University where he achieved his Master in Business Administration.
Sean is an entrepreneur at heart. So he created Britnell Ventures that started and operates a number of e-commerce based businesses of which BooksforBusiness.com is likely the most well-known. If you are aware of the name Britnell from the bookstore on Young street just north of Bloor, that would be his grandfather.
In 2003 Britnell Ventures moved to Oakville after extensively looking at all the options. He needs to attract top talent, and keep them happy. Oakville had all the elements his business needed which was proximity to the GO Train, easy access to Toronto, a vibrant downtown, great schools and excellent facilities.
In 2007 Sean moved to Oakville with his wife (an ICU nurse at St. Mike’s) into the Glen Abbey community where he continues to live. He supports the community through working with the local school. Over 3 years he raised enough money to update all the school’s technology. He also coaches for the Oakville Soccer Club.
