For the past 33 years, a group of dedicated volunteers from the Citivan Club of Oakville has risen every Saturday morning at 7:00 AM from the middle of May to the end of October to set up Oakville’s oldest Farmers Market. They are a dedicated group lead by Doug Guthrie, who has been doing this for 12 years.

Civitan Doug Guthrie, who has led the market for over a dozen years and been responsible for its success”, cites the support of Bentall Kennedy‘s Regional Marketing Director Domenic Imbesi.

The market has been located in several locations, but this year the Bentall Kennedy has stepped up again, and provided a terrific location in the east side of Dorval Crossing.

Dorval Crossing, a prestige shopping destination, literally at Oakville’s ‘crossroads’, is the best possible location for our famers market,” observed Civitan Club co-President James McCannell.

Dominic realized that to have a great farmers market you need to provide fun things for the children, so there is a special activity every week from face painting to bouncy castles.

The farmer’s attending the market range from all over Southern Ontario, and include fresh baked goods, gourmet mushrooms, fresh vegetables, and even a local Oakville vendor who creates natural organic soaps. Anywhere from 15 to 22 farmers attend, so there is lots of local produce.

Civitan raises money from selling the stalls at the market, which in-turn is distributed back to local halton charities. In total, the Civitan Club of Oakville donates $40,000 every year.

So if you are a foodie like I am, you’ll want to head out to Oakville’s Oldest Farmers Market at Dorval Crossing (just north of the QEW on the east side of Dorval) on Saturday Mornings from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You’ll have fun, your children will be entertained, and your family will have wonderful fresh food.
