As a resident of Ward 6 and a very active community member Natalia Lishchyna, believes that serving as a town councillor for Ward 6 is a natural step in fulling her goal of helping people.
The desire to help others started in High School and continued through University when she volunteered at the Emergency Department for the local hospital. When her children were growing up, she was an active member of their schools’ parent councils that included Sheridan Public School, Munn’s Public School and Iroquois Ridge High School.
Dr. Lishchyna is as a chiropractor in Bronte, and works three days a week. At the clinic she helps interns through their programs, and was the second woman president of the Ontario Chiropractic Association.
Having been born in the Ukraine and moving with her parents and younger brother to Canada when she was 8 in 1980, Natalia also understands the immigrant perspective. Her family was given just 48 hours to leave their home. She was the first to fluently speak, write and read English and was often relied upon by her parents to translate. Her family was able to immigrate to Canada because her grandparents had fled to Canada earlier. To this day both her children still attend Ukrainian school in Oakville.
She, her husband and two children moved to Oakville 12 years ago. They moved because Oakville was a safe environment for their children, had excellent schools, and as an avid outdoors person the trails of Ward 6 seemed just perfect.
Natalia feels she has the skills to understand the complexity of Ward 6 from it’s well established neighbourhoods of Falgarwood and Joshua Creek, the new developments north of Dundas, to the commercial interests of Ward 6’s eastern boundary.
