As I was waiting for John Oliver MP in the Kerr St Mission Chapel this morning, two ladies began to bring in box after box of toys and clothes for use at the Kerr Street Mission this Christmas. As A result of donations such as these and the enormous gifting by people like John Oliver MPP, the schools that collect and make donations, and the “Toys for Tots” toy drive sponsored by the Halton Police and Fire Departments, the Kerr Street Ministry will be able to care for over 1100 people this Christmas.

Santa Claus is coming to town! – with a room chocked full of toys to prove it! According to Executive Director, Gary O’Neill, “The Mission here is about caring for the community. We are thrilled by the community support of our Caring Wonders Campaign! Each person registered this Christmas will receive a $75.00 gift certificate to spend as they wish. Each child will receive a puzzle, a book and a toy. Parents, who usually struggle year-round are encouraged to forget about their worries this Christmas. The families will be provided with a turkey and the groceries to go with the Christmas Feast.”

The work accomplished at the Kerr St. Ministry is largely accomplished by community volunteers. The Christmas Lady, Agnes Unger calls the volunteers such as Janice Ekeland and Judy Arndt who work tirelessly at this time of year, “My Angels”. Angels are sitting on the Kerr St Building located at 485 Kerr St in Oakville. The Mission is always welcoming new and eager Angels wanting to wish the Community of Halton a very Merry Christmas this year!

To see how you can help, please call the Kerr Street Mission today!
