Our new Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital will be opening in North Oakville (Dundas & Third Line) at the end of this year, resulting in its closure at the current location.

Chaired by Ward 3 residents Carol & Grant Gooding, an ad hoc committee comprising concerned area residents, local residents associations, and your Ward 3 councillors have been working with the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). The LHIN wants to identify the needs of seniors and those requiring chronically complex care living in South-Central and South-East Oakville.

As the town will be constructing a Community Centre on the southern part of the hospital lands, the LHIN has proposed that a Family Health Hub be an integral part of this new community centre. This proposed Hub could provide a continuum of multidisciplinary services – e.g. doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, dieticians, social workers, and pharmacy.

An anonymous survey has been created to find out what medical needs the residents will require once our current hospital is closed. This survey is available through “Survey Monkey”, and your responses are strictly confidential. To access the survey, please double-click on this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9VPJZB9, or cut and paste it into your browser.

Many of you may have already received this request from your area residents association. If you have already completed the survey, thank you for providing your input on the future of health care in our area. It is one survey per household in the L6J or L6K postal districts. To be counted, it needs to be completed by Monday, July 13th.

Thank you in advance for providing your confidential feedback.

Background Information

As detailed in past newsletters, discussions have been ongoing with the Local Health Integration Network regarding the needs of our community and a Community Health Hub. This topic was recently aired on Cogeco featuring Mayor Burton, representatives from the LHIN, and Dave Mallen, President of the Trafalgar-Chartwell Residents’ Association.

Based on the comments and questions that I receive from residents regarding the future of the hospital lands, this Cogeco show will be of great interest, and a must watch for residents. This program is available at Future of the OTMH Lands.
