Wednesday July 29, 2015 marked Arrow’s first day of training with the Halton Regional Police.
Arrow is beginning his training with K9 officer Constable Tara McLorn but is anxiously awaiting the start of his new partner, Constable Kyle Gibson.
Constable Gibson and PSD Arrow will begin training together in September, a period that usually takes about four months.
Police service dogs are exceptionally well trained, and must obey their handler without hesitation. After becoming experts at basic obedience, endurance and agility training, they can also be trained to search for drugs, bombs or guns, along with learning to track missing persons or suspects
PSD Arrow was imported from the Czech Republic and is 14 months old and like all police service dogs, is very eager to get started. The Czech Republic has become the leader in breeding the best police service dogs.
Follow the @HRPSK9 Twitter account to see what the Police Service Dogs are doing and you will catch a glimpse of Arrow as he begins his journey.
We wish him well in his training and look forward to introducing him to the Halton community when he is ready to go out and do what these dogs do best, protect and serve!
