On May 12, 2016 the Halton Regional Police Service arrested and charged Maty Charles MARTEN, a 34 year old male for various domestic related offences in relation to a victim he met on-line.
MARTEN has been charged with using a computer system to commit an offence, administer noxious thing with intent to endanger or cause bodily harm, mischief to property under $5,000 and criminal harassment.
Police say their investigation revealed that MARTEN had met the victim through an on-line dating website and that he was active on other various websites.
MARTEN had falsely identified himself with fictitious names and lifestyle information. Upon arrest he was found to be in possession of an unofficial firefighter’s badge despite the fact he was not employed by any fire service.
The Halton Regional Police Service Domestic Violence Unit is encouraging any women who may have met MARTEN to contact Detective Constable Wendy Moraghan 905-465-8775 or Det. Const. Allison Theriault 905-465-8773 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), through the web atwww.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting “Tip201” with messages to 274637 (crimes).
The Halton Regional Police Service wish to remind the public to use caution on social media and dating websites and to be aware that criminals use the internet to target and exploit victims.
