Sheridan Students win RTDNA Awards

Several Sheridan Broadcast Journalism students are among the winners of the prestigious Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTDNA) Awards, which will be presented in Toronto on June 14, 2013.

Justin Grant, Nathan Peters and James Garcia will be awarded the COLD-FX Scholarship, which is presented for a medical news story or feature designed for television or radio that demonstrates an ability to grasp medical issues and presents complicated information in a clear and compelling way.

The team won for their feature story, “The Hidden Cost of Red Bull”, which examines the energy drink epidemic and the potential dangers of over-consumption.

Katie Breen, a native of Newfoundland, is the winner of the Broadcasters of Atlantic Canada Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a student from Atlantic Canada who plans to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.  Katie submitted two videos as part of her submission for the award, including a feature story on the Royal Winter Fair.

The awards include a plaque, $2,000 cash prize, and invitation to the annual RTDNA conference.
