When you were a kid…

it seemed that the summer days were filled with nothing but endless hours in the sun, always making something out of nothing. In today’s world, the summer months are spent filling hours with activities, camps, and road trips – just to keep the kids away from the TV and computer!

But you don’t always need to go away to have a get away! Here in Bronte Harbour Tourist Area, we have a wealth of activities and attractions for people of all ages. Whether you’ve lived here all your life, or you’re just coming into the area for a visit, we think our summer “To-Do” list will be the perfect addition to your summer schedule.

1. Take a walk down the Pier to the lighthouse! Whether you have an ice cream in hand, a dog on their leash, or a group of kids in tow, the Bronte Harbour Pier and Lighthouse are the perfect summer destination.

2. Learn some History about Bronte! The Bronte Historical Society invites you to visit the Sovereign House, a historically renovated building that hosts special exhibits and events. Or, visit the Bronte Fisherman’s Memorial, a granite monument 6-feet tall that depicts scenes from Bronte’s history as a fishing community.

3. Get Active Outside! Bronte, in conjunction with the Town of Oakville, offers many activities where you can get outside and enjoy the weather while staying active! Bronte Athletic field has a baseball diamond, soccer field, jungle gym playground, and the Bronte Pool! If you head just West of Bronte along Lakeshore, you’ll also be able to experience the beauty of Shell Park, with lush gardens, multiple soccer fields, a large skate/bmx park, and a leash-free dog run!

4. Walk a portion of the Waterfront Trail! Did you know that the Waterfront Trail runs right through Bronte, and is part of a 1400 km trail that explores Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and the St. Lawrence River? You can explore part of it by starting here, and experiencing Oakville from this unique point of view!

Bronte offers a variety of ways to get out there, whether it’s through the Bronte Harbour Yacht Club sailing school, or one of our Leisure or Fishing cruises, there’s no excuse not to be on the water this summer!

6. Explore a New Cultural Cuisine! Within the village of Bronte, you can explore multiple cultural cuisines! Break out of your shell and try anything from British Fish and Chips, to Mediterainian Chicken Shawarma, to Colombian Coffee and deserts. Visit our Restaurant Directory for these options, and many more!

7. Attend Events! Bronte is in the central hub of so many of Oakville’s biggest summer events, including the Oakville Waterfront Festival and Art in the Park. For a full listing of our events, visit our Calendar.
