Environment Canada has updated it Winter Travel Advisory for today. It was issued at 4:32 AM, on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 .Transportation to and from schools is CANCELLED for Tues. Jan 10th. Schools remain open – tweeted by Halton Catholic School Board.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for today into this evening.

Snowfall accumulations near 10 cm are likely today. Local blowing snow is also expected as winds increase throughout the day.

Snow will change to rain near noon over extreme southwestern Ontario, and late this afternoon over the Greater Toronto Area. Brief freezing rain is possible in some areas during the changeover from snow to rain.

There may be a significant impact to the morning commute and possibly the afternoon one as well for regions where the change to rain occurs later. Untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery.

Motorists should plan for extra time to reach their destination today.

Winds will increase early this evening with widespread gusts to 80 km/h likely. Stronger wind gusts to 90 km/h are expected in some regions near Lake Huron and Lake Erie where a wind warning is in effect.

The weather system responsible is a Colorado low that will affect much of the province.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow – a familiar lyric that will be particularly relevant for early tomorrow morning and through Tuesday in Oakville. When I woke up to drive my wife to work, our complex had already salted out shared driveway. So be prepared for very slow and potentially dangerous drive.

Here is Environment Canada’s Weather Alert for Oakville issued on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 3:22 PM.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for tonight and Tuesday.

Snow is expected to develop tonight over southwestern Ontario and move eastward to reach the Greater Toronto Area early Tuesday morning. Snowfall accumulations near 10 cm are likely in many areas before the snow changes to rain. Snow will change to rain late in the morning over southwestern Ontario, and late in the afternoon over the Greater Toronto Area.

Brief freezing rain is possible in some areas during the changeover from snow to rain.
