Masterworks of Oakville Chorus & Orchestra is pleased to announce that we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. This milestone concert will be broadcast on TVCogeco and features a choir of 60 (including members of the Georgetown Bach Chorale) and an orchestra of 70.

Our concert soloist, Poulenc GLORIA, is talented soprano Tessa Laengert-Ruta. Ms. Laengert-Ruta grew up in Oakville and attended both the Oakville Christian School and Oakville Trafalgar High School. She was part of the Oakville Children’s Choir from ages 6-11 and then joined the Canadian Children’s Opera in Toronto.

“The chance to do this repertoire anywhere is truly a gift and‎ I am thrilled to be performing it in Oakville,” said Ms. Laengert-Ruta.

Masterworks is committed to supporting our local community. Our choristers, orchestra members, volunteers and concert venues are all from our own community. It is always a great honour to present an Oakville soloist, and for this special concert, we are also performing a piece (ALERION) by our very own Maestro Charles Demuynck. We are proud to have entertained and inspired our Oakville neighbours for ten years, and what an appropriate way to celebrate by honouring our own local Oakville talent.

This is a particularly exciting program for several reasons: to perform Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms is a wonderful challenge for us, and to do it along with Picasso’s works displayed will be a truly special event for the audience. Secondly, to have Oakville’s own Tessa Laengert perform in Poulenc’s Gloria will be wonderful, it’s an amazing piece and Tessa is a particularly exciting performer. Finally, I’m delighted to conduct my own composition Alerion, the orchestra is playing this difficult piece very well, and I hope that the audience response will be just as overwhelmingly positive as at the world premiere at St. Matthew’s in 2010!

On Saturday evening, Mayor Burton will be in attendance to formally recognize Masterworks on our milestone anniversary. On Sunday, MPP Kevin Flynn will be in attendance to say a few words of congratulations. All of our guests will receive a special anniversary ‘treat’ to mark the occasion!
