Attending for Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford, Mae Scatliff and MPP Oakville North-Burlington Effie Triantafilopoulos joined in the ceremony and brought greetings for Premier Doug Ford and the Government of Ontario.
Mayor Rob Burton delivered his fourth inaugural address that spoke to the community’s many accomplishments over the years.
“We have much to be proud in Oakville,” said Mayor Burton. “We have slower and controlled growth, double the amount of community facilities, the healthiest finances in Ontario, increased green space and more.”
He touched on how our town’s vision and core values will allow our community to successfully meet the challenges we face going forward.
“There are new heights to reach and challenges to overcome,” he said. “As we begin this new term of Council, we are committed to serving our community and continuing on our path to become Canada’s most livable town.”
At the meeting, the 2019 Council and Standing Committee approved the schedule of meetings, and Council announced appointments to the various advisory boards and committees. For more information, review the December 3, 2018 Council agenda.
The 2018 municipal election used the town’s new seven ward boundary system, which officially came into effect on December 1, 2018.
For the 2018-2022 Oakville Town Council Inauguration and the following public reception the Town Hall was completely full. This official event took place on December 3, 2018.
The Mayor and 14 Town and Regional Councillors were officially sworn into office by the Honourable Mr. Justice David A. Harris. Reverend Jeff Ward, Rector at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church and Regional Dean of Trafalgar, delivered the invocation.
