2018 Municipal Debates
With the municipal election just around the corner residents associations announced their 2018 Municipal debates. Almost all wards have candidates running for Town Councillor and Town & Regional Councillor. The debates take place over the next few weeks.
There will be at least two Mayoral candidates' debates.
Many of the debates include the School Board Trustee candidates for the Halton District School Board, and the Halton Catholic District School Board.
The candidates discuss the important issues that not only affect the town, but also your ward.
Dates for 2018 Municipal Debates
- Ward 1 - Thursday, October 4th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at QE Park Community & Cultural Centre
- Ward 2 - Wednesday, October 3rd from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at St. Aidan's Church. This debate only includes the Town Councillors candidates. The Town & Regional councillor was acclaimed
- Ward 3 - Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Oakville Trafalgar High School. It includes the Mayoral and Town Councillor candidates. The Town & Regional Councillor was acclaimed.
- Ward 4 - Friday, October 12th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Church of the Incarnation
- Ward 5 - Thursday, October 4th at 6:45 to 9:00 PM at River Oaks Community Centre
- Ward 6 - No debate because both the Town Councillor and Town & Regional are acclaimed.
- Ward 7 - Saturday, September 29th 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Monte Carlo Inn. - this is a new ward. There are only 50 seats available so you'll need to reserve a seat by emailing weliveincanada@yahoo.com or by texting (905) 617-8866. A confirmation number will be sent to you.
Mayoral Debates 2018
- Monday, October 15th from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Sheridan College's Theatre - doors open at 6:00 PM. The Oakville Chamber of Commerce hosts this debate. It only includes Mayoral candidates.
- Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Oakville Trafalgar High School. This debate includes all Ward 3 candidates.
Town Councillors, Town & Regional Councillors and the Mayor impact your daily life more than any other level of government. They are the people you contact when you need help. Their help can range from having home building plans approved, negotiating zoning, dealing with private property issues and pretty much everything in-between.
Just as importantly are the school trustee candidates who often get overlooked during a municipal election. Trustees guide the school boards. They make sure that the our children are well-educated and the school boards run effectively.
Your vote ensures the health and vitality of our community. Be an informed voter, attend the 2018 Municipal debates for Town Councillors, Town & Regional Councillors, and the Mayoral candidates. Vote on October 22, 2018.
