This summer Oakville Galleries presents a group exhibition titled Auto-Motive: World from the Windshield spanning the Centennial Gallery & Gairloch Gallery, from June 9 to August 31, 2013.

Auto-Motive: World From the Windshield brings together eighteen artists who study ideas of place, perception and emotional experience from the interior of a car. This exhibition is organized at a time when the moving landscape progressively occupies more time in people’s lives: Canadians, on average, spend 63 minutes each day in a car making the round trip between their home and their workplace. These artists demonstrate that the car windshield has become a global cultural lens. As an enduring icon of contemporary culture, the car remains vital as a source of adventure and discovery–its windshield permitting swiftly observed views of vast territory and scale, both built and natural. Employing numerous media visitors can enjoy works of art that include painting, video and photography.

Exhibiting artists include: Roy Arden,  Iain Baxter, Stan Denniston, Christos Dikeakos, Susan Dobson, Fred Herzog, Geoffrey James, Jesper Just, Mara Korkola, John Massey, N.E. Thing Co., Marian Penner Bancroft, Leslie Peters, Martha Rosler, Jon Sasaki, Monica Tap, Jeff Wall, and Paul Wong.

Opening Night

Oakville Galleries opening of this exhibition  is on Sunday 9 June from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square, followed by a reception at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens from 3:30 pm-5:00 pm.
