It is so important that everyone feel they belong. It creates a healthier community. To increase that sense of belonging in Oakville, 30 local organizations and businesses have chosen to participate in their first-ever open doors day called Belong Oakville on March 17, 2017.

“Belong Oakville is about bringing people together to explore, experience and take part in free activities in their own community,” said Sarah McPherson, Oakville Community Foundation’sDirector Philanthropy and Communications. “It’s about building a sense of community, while also providing unique opportunities to foster a sense of belonging for residents of all ages. We invite you to get to know your community and celebrate with family.”

Oakville residents and visitors can take part in dozens of free activities to end their March Break. The Oakville Community Foundation enlisted the Town of Oakville to offer a wide range of free activities.

In the 2016 census data for Oakville, it was reported that half of people over 80 (50%) reported feeling lonely. We believe that a community prospers when all of its members can prosper and contribute. “Belong Oakville” helps support our local community and the people who live, work, study and socialize here.

According to the Oakville Community Foundation’s 2017 Sense of Belonging survey, more than one in four Oakville residents feel like an outsider. They want to change that!
