The Oakville Blades finished their final home game of 2014 on a sour note, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Georgetown Raiders.

The Raiders had full control of the action early. Oakville’s defense looked to start off slow, allowing Georgetown to create chances from all different types of angles early. Georgetown would take the 1-0 lead with about 13:30 remaining in the first when Francois Cote’s wicked shot from the blue line made it past a screened Daniel Mannella, giving the visitors the early advantage.

Georgetown made it 2-0 with less than five minutes to go. With both teams engaged in a scramble in front of Mannella, Blake Jones managed to dig the puck out and shovel it past the Oakville goaltender, extending their lead to two goals before the first intermission.

Oakville’s struggles continued in the second. Jones managed to score his second of the game with 13:38 remaining in the second period after skating around a sprawling Mannella before flicking the puck over and in for the 3-0 goal.

Georgetown had a fantastic chance to add to their three goal advantage just 15 seconds into the third. With Oakville struggling to get the puck out of the zone, Anthony Marra picked up the loose puck and deked past Mannella, who somehow kept the puck out with the tip of his stick. The save wouldn’t change much for Oakville, however, as the Blades could not produce up to their normal offensive output and would drop the meeting 3-0 to the Raiders.

The Blades are in action one more time before the Christmas break with a 5:30pm meeting against the North York Rangers on Sunday at the Herbert Carnegie Centre. Hope to see some Oakville supporters!
