The Oakville Blades won their third consecutive playoff series in five games. They are now in the 2019 Buckland Cup Finals, the first time since 2011.  Their goal: capture the Ontario Junior Hockey League Championship.

Their opponents are the reigning champions Wellington Dukes. The Dukes played a hard-fought series against the North York Rangers. It took them 7 games to win the South-East Conference Series.

The 2019 Buckland Cup Final will be a rematch of the 2011 Buckland Cup Final when the Dukes came away with the 4-1 series victory against the Blades.

The last time the Blades played the Dukes was on January 25th in Wellington. They just fell short in a 6-5 double overtime thriller, when the Dukes scored with two seconds left in the second overtime.

Getting to the 2019 Buckland Cup

The Oakville Blades beat the Brampton Admirals 4-1 in the West Division Semi Finals, as well as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 4-1 in the West Division Finals. They just beat the Markham Royals 4-1 in the North-West Conference Finals…to earn a berth in the Buckland Cup Final.

The Wellington Dukes beat the first place Cobourg Cougars 4-1 in the East Division Semis. Then they had a hard-fought series vs the Whitby Fury  to win that East Division Final 4-3 in seven games. The Dukes went to game seven against the North York Rangers to win the South-East Conference Series. It  booked their place in the Buckland Cup Final for the second straight year.

Both of these teams are well coached  and have major offensive firepower. Two great organizations will be battling for the Buckland Cup Trophy.

It will be the South-East Conference Champions against your Oakville Blades, who are not only the North-West Conference Champions, but are also the West Division Champions. They’ll be on home ice since they finished in first place in the regular season.

The Blades have claimed the infamous Buckland Cup in the 2007/2008 and 2009/2010 seasons.
