Canada Road Safety Week 2018 starts

Canada Road Safety Week 2018

From Tuesday, May 15th to Victoria Day marks the annual Canada Road Safety Week 2018, a national campaign to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world. The campaign is supported by Transport Canada and is endorsed by police services from coast to coast.

Road Safety Week 2018 Themes

  1. Alcohol-impaired driving
  2. Fatigue-impaired driving
  3. Distracted driving
  4. Drug-impaired driving
  5. Aggressive driving
  6. Occupant restraint use (seat belts and child seats)

Our community has consistently identified traffic issues as a major concern, particularly impaired driving, aggressive driving and distracted driving.

During Canada Road Safety Week, motorists who travel anywhere within the Region of Halton – from our urban centres to our rural areas – can expect to see an increased police presence on our roadways.

Here are some tips to ensure that Halton remains the safest large municipality in Canada:

  1. Drive now, call and text later. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle collisions.
  2. Slow down! Speed kills. Remember, we’ll see you before you see us. Speed limits will be enforced.
  3. If you consume alcohol or drugs, don’t drive. Impaired driving remains the leading criminal cause of death on Ontario roadways. Drug-impaired driving is both detectable and enforceable.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. The Halton Regional Police Service remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community through a balanced approach of education and enforcement initiatives. We encourage all road users to obey the rules of the road.

If you observe a vehicle being operated in a manner which places you, or anyone else in danger, please call 9-1-1 for an immediate police response. Impaired driving is considered a crime in progress. If you see it, call 9-1-1.

Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers “See Something? Hear Something? Know Something? Contact Crime Stoppers” at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or through the web at
