​Further to today’s incident in Oakville where a motor vehicle was driven through a Maple Grove Drive guard rail into Lake Ontario, a 22 year old male from Welland is charged with:

  1. Impaired Driving Causing Death
  2. Refuse to Provide Breath Sample

He remains in custody and will appear in court on the 6th of November 2018 for a bail hearing.

The deceased victim was a 27 year old male from Mississauga, his identity will not be released at the request of his family.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police regarding this incident are asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext: 5065.

1st Update:

The Halton Regional Police Service has concluded their ground search in the area where a motor vehicle was driven down Maple Grove Drive,  through a guard rail and into Lake Ontario earlier this morning.

The body of a deceased male who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the collision has been located near the scene of the crash. The twenty-two year old male who is believed to have been operating the car remains in custody. There are no other persons believed to have been occupying the vehicle at the time of the collision. The Halton Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit will be assuming carriage of the investigation from this point onwards.

​On Monday November 5th, 2018 at approx 3:05 am Halton Regional Police were called to the area of Maple Grove Dr and Lakeshore Road East in the Town of Oakville to investigate a report of a person knocking on doors.

Shortly after arriving on the scene police located a male and discovered a collision had occurred that resulted in a vehicle entering Lake Ontario at the dead end of Maple Grove Dr, Oakville.

Police have arrested a person for impaired driving.

Halton Regional Police Service officers are continuing the investigation into the car that entered Lake Ontario at the dead end of Maple Grove Drive, in Oakville.

In addition to uniform patrol officers, members of the Search Incident Response Team, Marine Unit, Collision Reconstruction Unit, and Criminal Investigations Bureau are continuing to search the area in order to determine whether or not there were any other occupants of the vehicle at the time of the collision.

A twenty-two year old male remains in custody, currently charged with:

  1. Impaired Driving
  2. Refuse To Provide Breath Sample​

The Halton Regional Police Service remains committed to road safety through prevention, education and enforcement initiatives.
