A 34 year old Guelph man is in serious condition after rolling his cement truck at an Oakville construction site this afternoon 21 October 2013.

Shortly after the noon hour, the driver was positioning his cement truck in order to offload his cement onto a concrete pumping truck.  During the manoeuvring, the truck rolled onto its side and down a shallow embankment.  The cab was severely damaged and the driver pinned.

Emergency services responded, including Air ORNG.  Advanced care paramedics, flight paramedics and Oakville Fire Fighters worked in concert to methodically extricate the man, which took nearly 3 hours to complete.  This also included an emergency run of transfusions from Oakville Trafalgar Hospital to the scene as well as the police escort of a crane truck involved in the rescue operation.

The man was removed and driven a short distance by EMS to the waiting air ambulance, which had landed on Dundas Street.  He was then airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital in serious condition.

Dundas Street was closed in both directions in the area just west of Sixth Line while the air ambulance was on the ground.

Members of the Halton Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are assisting the Ministry of Labour inspector, who has taken the lead in this investigation.

Police will not be releasing the name of the injured man.
