Cyclists
At approximately 7:24am on Saturday, the 26th of May 2018 the Halton Regional Police Service was advised of a collision between several cyclists on New Street near the intersection with Goodram Drive in the City of Burlington. The Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in and investigated the collision.
Their investigation revealed that a group of nine cyclists had been travelling as a peloton. They were going westbound on New Street. This unfortunate collision occurred between members of the peloton. Three of the riders collided and resulted in them falling off their bicycles.
Two of the riders suffered minor injuries while the third, 66 year old Douglas Carter from Oakville was transported to Hamilton General Hospital's Trauma Centre in critical condition. Mr. Carter later died of his injuries.
The police have released that Mr. Carter had been wearing his helmet, and that no motor vehicles were involved in this collision.
The New Street was closed for approximately 2.5 hours for the investigation.
