Dame Evelyn Glennie and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra on Tour

St. Jude’s Celebration of the Arts present the world renowned percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Anne Manson. Tickets will be $40.00 and may be purchased at the church office 905-844-3972 or at the Celebration of the Arts website.
There are many reasons to be astonished by Dame Evelyn Glennie. She’s master of a vast variety of percussive instruments, a motivational speaker, a jeweler, an arranger, and, ahem, a noble.
Audiences also tend to marvel that Glennie, the world’s premier solo percussionist, is profoundly deaf, although she has a decidedly different attitude about the matter: “For me, my deafness is no more important than the fact I am female with brown eyes,” she says.
Fresh off winning the Polar Music Prize and recording an album with Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, the Scottish polyglot will tour Eastern Canada with the MCO in the fall of 2016. For her Winnipeg stop on this tour, she’ll perform marimba and vibraphone arrangements of Vivaldi and Corelli (you read that right!) as well as a handful of short, powerful contemporary works.
