Residents invited to safely recycle and dispose of household hazardous waste and electronic waste items

On Saturday, September 28, Halton Region will hold a Special Waste Drop-off Day event in Oakville, inviting residents to safely recycle and dispose of household hazardous waste and electronic waste items. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sheridan College at 1430 Trafalgar Road

“Special Waste Drop-off Days and the other initiatives from Halton’s 2012-2016 Solid Waste Management Strategy help to expand the lifespan of Halton’s landfill–a savings of $15 million for taxpayers,” said Gary Carr, Regional Chair. “Halton has one of the highest diversion rates in the Province, and was recently named a top municipal electronics recycler from Ontario Electronic Stewardship for working with residents to divert electronic waste away from the landfill.”

In 2012, 128 tonnes of electronic waste and 108 tonnes of household hazardous waste were dropped off at Halton’s Special Waste Drop-off Days.

Acceptable items for drop-off include pesticides, paint, motor oil, antifreeze, propane tanks, computers, stereos, TVs, DVD players and VCRs. Residents may drop off these items free of charge. No commercial waste will be accepted. For a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items please visit www.halton.ca/waste.
Residents who are unable to attend one of the events may drop off acceptable household hazardous waste (20 L maximum) and electronic items (five items maximum) free of charge at the Halton Waste Management Site at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton, Monday to Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
