Josef Petriska, Artist, Sculptor and Nature’s Voice
Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre (JCHAC) will open a unique exhibition featuring local octogenarian Oakville artist Josef Petriska on September 12, 2013 and run until October 13, 2013. Meet the artist at the Opening Tea Party on September 15, from 2pm-5pm. Josef Petriska, Artist, Sculptor and Nature’s Voice, will feature nearly 30 works by Petriska, including a selection of his highly regarded sculptures, paintings and reliefs.

An internationally renown artist and sculptor, Josef Petriska is a national treasure; a long time resident of Oakville, Josef’s studio workshop and home are overflowing with his life’s work. He is an environmentalist, one of his most notable works is “Struggle for Survival“, a bronze sculpture of a bird, dying from pollution. This powerful symbol, endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund, has been featured on the CBC program  The Nature of Things. He has exhibited with Karel Appel, Harold Town, Andrew Wyeth, Etrog Sorel, Robert Bateman, and members of the Group of Seven. Now is the time to disperse his collection and share it with the world.  Pieces will be available for sale with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the new Oakville Hospital.

The mandate of JCHAC is to reach into the community to give galleries, art lovers and collectors the opportunity to pay tribute to this extraordinary man.
