Description: Chris Raible is well-known in Ontario historical circles as a writer and research of Upper Canada. His current study is a careful tracking of William Lyon Mackenzie’s flight for his life after the failure of the Rebellion in December 1837. The journey to the border of five days, four nights on foot and horseback, mostly in the cold and dark was possible because of the more than 30 different people and families who fed him, hid him, advised him and accompanied him. This journey was right through the heart of the present-day Town of Oakville. Many area family stories may not be actually true – come and hear the real story. You’ll also enjoy visiting the old, restored one-room schoolhouse in Palermo, home of the TTHS.
