T.A. Blakelock High School

Named after the world famous Golden Hawks precision flight team of the Canadian Air Force, 540 Golden Hawks Squadron is one of 450+ squadrons in Canada and has been serving the youth of Oakville, Ontario for more than 60 years.

In addition to meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings at T. A. Blakelock High School, the cadets enjoy activities such as wilderness training, field exercises, a marching band, a drill team, Remembrance Day parades, ground school, and athletic days.

540 Sqn’s training year closely follows the school year, running from September to June. Most of the training is performed by senior cadets and covers topics such as drill, first-aid, instructional techniques, leadership, marksmanship, meteorology, navigation, principles of flight, survival training, and more.¬†During the summer months, cadets have the opportunity to apply for summer training courses that can run from two to seven weeks.

Coached and supervised by Officers of the Canadian Forces, cadets progress through stages of increasing responsibilities and leadership, with senior cadets organizing and taking a lead role in many of the activities.

The Cadet Program is open to youth aged 12 to 18 and 540 Sqn is always looking to recruit new members.
