The 16th annual Eddies Gala Awards evening – a popular festival celebrating student filmmaking – will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Craig Kielburger Secondary School (1151 Ferguson Dr., Milton). The theatre doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the awards celebration begins at 7 p.m., followed by screenings of this year’s winners. This event is open to the public, no tickets are required and admission is free.

The Halton Student Film Festival celebrates student success in film-making by recognizing technical and creative achievements. The festival is open to all secondary students in the Halton District school Board. “Eddies” awards will be given out in various categories including Best Drama, Best Comedy and Best Documentary, as well as various technical categories such as Best Cinematography, Editing and Sound.

The student films are judged by professionals in various roles in the film industry.

Following the presentation of awards, winning entries will be viewed on a large screen for all to enjoy.

“Students, staff, and family members are invited to come out and share in the success of the students,” said Veronica Kleinsmith, Instructional Program Leader for the Halton District School Board. “The Eddies entries continually impress everyone who attends this event each and every year.”

Previous Eddies award winners have gone on to achieve success in the film and television industry, with some capturing prestigious awards for their work.
