Today, Environment Canada issued a heat warning at 1:47 PM for Oakville. Temperatures starting on Friday, July 19th are expected to reach into the low 30’s, but it is the humidity that is going to really effect us.

When you combine high temperatures with high levels of humidity the likelihood of thunderstorms is always present.

With the humidity low 30’s is going to feel like it is in the low 40’s. This is dangerous territory for everyone, but especially youngsters and people with health issues.

Please do not leave children or pets in a vehicle for any period of time. Even if you only plan to be out of your vehicle for a minute, it isn’t worth the risk.

Other things to keep in mind, keep hydrated, which also means keeping water in your car. Don’t exercise you or your pet in the middle of the day. Keep tabs on your neighbours, and if you have air conditioning and they don’t invite them over, the same goes for a pool.

The extreme heat combined with very humid air is expected to last until late Saturday night. However, looking at the forecast, it may extend into Sunday, when they are forecasting cooler and drier air will blow in.
