The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is investigating a number of Land Rover thefts in Oakville and Burlington.

Within the last week, the Town of Oakville experienced two thefts of Land Rovers from residential driveways.  The vehicles in question were removed between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. Both vehicles were locked and all the keys to the vehicles were accounted for by the owners.

Locations of Land Rover Thefts

Oakville

  1. A 2015 Land Rover SUV was stolen on the night of October 16, 2018, from a driveway near the intersection of Ernest Appelbe Boulevard and Dundas Street East
  2. A 2013 Range Rover Sport was stolen during the early morning hours of October 23, 2018, from a driveway near the intersection of Duncan Road and Maple Grove Road. Changed: The Halton Regional Police would like to make an ammendment to the original media release.  The keys to the 2013 Range Rover stolen on October 23, 2018, were actually taken with the Range Rover.  This is contrary to the original release which stated that the keys were still in the owner’s possession.
  3. A 2016 Range Rover was stolen from a driveway during July

Burlington

  1. A 2016 Land Rover stolen during May
  2. A 2016 Range Rover stolen during June

Security camera footage has shown suspects approaching the residences on foot and then utilizing a device to defeat the vehicles’ security systems. Police believe the technology used may be accessing the signal transmitted by the vehicles’ key fobs.

Police are reminding the public of the following vehicle theft prevention tips:

  1. Park your vehicle within a locked/secure garage
  2. If a garage is not accessible, park another vehicle in front
  3. Ensure your unattended vehicle(s) are locked and secure
  4. Never leave spare keys in your vehicle
  5. Never leave spare keys outside of your residence
  6. When not in use, place vehicle keys inside a radio frequency shielding bag/pouch to block cell signals
  7. Equip your vehicle with an alarm
  8. Equip your vehicle with a GPS tracking device
  9. Use other devices to deter thefts (e.g. steering wheel locking device)

Community safety is a shared responsibility. If you see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please report it immediately.
