Letter to the Editor: Bronte Debate Mayoral Candidate Clarification

Dear Publisher

Thank you for your article regarding the Ward 1 All Candidates’ Meeting held on October 7.

There is a correction we would like to request you to publish. The October 9 article stated:

” Everyone campaigning was in attendance, including Greg Warchol who was not allowed to participate even though he is a candidate for Mayor.– ”

Please know that as the hosts of the event, the Bronte Village Residents Association, Association of Oakville Harbours’ Stakeholders, and Bronte Harbour Yacht Club invited all candidates who were running for positions of Regional Chair, Mayor, Town & Regional Councillor Ward 1, and Town Councillor Ward 1. Mr. Warchol was indeed invited and welcome to attend.

Leading up to the event, we reached out to a few of the candidates who had not yet responded to our invitation, and not receiving any further response, we proceeded to finalize our program and other arrangements for the evening. Later, Mr. Warchol advised that he was able to attend. We indicated that he was welcome to participate in the meet-and-greet portion of the program, but not the panel question and answer period. He understood and accepted our decision.

We have email communications which support our efforts to ensure we were fair and as inclusive as possible to all candidates invited to the event. We were committed to ensure residents had the opportunity to meet and question all the candidates in order to facilitate an informed decision for October 27th.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we hope that a correction will be issued.

  1. I introduced Greg Warchol during the question and answer segment of the “All Candidates” Meeting – because “all” candidates weren’t included. It’s that simple and that unfair.

  2. copeland says:

    bottom line: unfair
